Shoulder Plastic Surgery

Shoulder plastic surgery is performed to repair injuries and deformities of the shoulder joint, including the rotator cuff, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. The goal is to relieve pain, improve function and increase range of motion. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. In the United States, more than one million shoulder surgeries are performed each year. Most of the procedures are performed by orthopedic surgeons, specialized physicians who are trained in musculoskeletal injuries and diseases of the joints and muscles. Depending on the type of shoulder surgery, the patient may be required to stay in the hospital for a day or two.어깨필러

Before the surgery, a member of your healthcare team will ask you about your medical history and answer any questions. You will be given pre-operative medications to take. Nurses will take your blood pressure, pulse and temperature, and put an IV line in your arm for fluids, medication and antibiotics. After the nurses have finished their preparation, you will be taken to the operating room. The procedure is usually done under general anesthesia, which puts you into a deep sleep.

A small incision is made, and a fiber-optic viewing instrument, called an arthroscope, is inserted into the joint. The surgeon sees the inside of the joint on a monitor, and can detect any problems such as damaged cartilage, tendons or ligaments. Using the arthroscope, the surgeon can also make repairs in the joint.

The acromioclavicular, or AC, joint, is the junction of the end of the clavicle, or collarbone, with the top of the shoulder bone (scapula). This joint can be painful due to cartilage wear, bone spurs or ligament injuries. In the surgical treatment of AC joint problems, the doctor cuts the tight capsule that surrounds the rotator cuff. This allows the rotator cuff to move freely in the socket.

After the procedure is over, a surgeon will close your incision with stitches or staples and cover it with a bandage or sling. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions for bathing, icing and taking medicines. The sling will protect your shoulder from being moved until you are able to get physical therapy started, which can begin the same day as your surgery.

After a period of time, you should be able to resume many activities. However, the results of physical therapy depend on a cooperative effort between you and your therapist. It is important to go to all your physical therapy sessions and perform the exercises that your therapist gives you. Performing these exercises several times a day for five to 10 minutes each can help you reach the best possible outcome from your surgery. It is also important not to lift anything that weighs more than five pounds and to avoid using your shoulder for lifting, reaching or pushing above waist level until you have healed fully. The success of your shoulder surgery will depend on your compliance with these guidelines.닥터케빈의원
